Christmas time is approaching once again. In fact, in less than one month’s time the festivities will already have kicked off in Disneyland Paris and the sights and sounds of the magical season will be filling the air. 2017 saw Disneyland Paris significantly increase the size and scale of the Christmas season with new shows, experiences and more. The good news? 2018 is looking set to be even better! Let’s take a look at the season in detail.
Magical Christmas Shows
The magic of the Disney Christmas comes to life through enchanting stage shows and spectaculars and Disneyland Paris is full of them. In fact, you could quite easily spend the entire day just watching stage shows and you’d never be bored. This year, there are no less than 4 shows:
Mickey’s Christmas Big Band: The highlight of the Christmas season is back and better than ever. This year the show moves out to the Walt Disney Studios Park and the Animagique Theatre – this is a great move as whilst Videopolis was a wonderful venue, the sheer crowds meant that each performance saw many people being turned away. The show set has been entirely redesigned in a new classy New York style and the outfits and costumes have been designed in partnership with Paris’s flagship Moulin Rouge. All these elements pulled together mean that this is a show we can once again already describe as the seasonal highlight.
Merry Stitchmas: Merry Stitchmas is a fun show that made its premiere in 2017, this show was full of fun and showcases Stitch in a number of fun and exciting outfits. As a lover of the Disney VIPs, Stitch and Christmas songs, this package was all wrapped up especially for me. For 2018 the show is being expanded once again with a new scene on the way. We have no real information about this, but it is exciting nonetheless.
Christmas Songtime: Opening in Videopolis during the Christmas Season, Christmas Songtime is looking set to be a celebration of the Christmas songs that we all know and love, but also a celebration of the Disney Performing Arts programme – this programme allows youth groups from across Europe to perform in Disneyland Paris. A magical experience for all involved.
Mickey’s Magical Christmas Lights: Each evening, join Mickey, Minnie and his special guest to turn on the Christmas lights in Disneyland Park. There is nothing quite like the feeling of Christmas lights turning on and the snow falling on Main Street USA, it can only be described as magical. It is the essence of Disney all rolled into one show. This is one not to miss.
A dazzling parade
The Disney Christmas Parade is again one of those magical and happy experiences. As the music of Christmas is Here fills the air, the magic of the Disney Christmas fills the streets. Look out here comes Soldier Goofy, next is Christmas Mickey and Minnie and all the whimsical dancers before the parade ends with the big man himself: Santa Claus.
This parade is multiple times a day and is infectious with its utter joy. Make sure you make time to enjoy this a few times!
Mickey’s 90th Birthday celebrations!
This year is a very special year, Mickey Mouse is turning 90 years old in the winter and Minnie is helping him celebrate. Each day (and who knows, maybe even several times a day?!?), Minnie will host Surprise Mickey. We don’t know much about this show, we know it will take place on Production Courtyard and will be huge. Keep an eye, and ear out, you never know when the party will start!
Disney Characters in their festive best
Disney Characters are as much part of the Disney experience as the attractions, the shows and parades. During the Christmas season, they all get a little bit more festive. You’ll find your favourites wearing special outfits in a very traditional festive style. But that’s not all! Don’t forget to meet Santa Goofy over in the Walt Disney Studios Park, or Sandy Claws in Frontierland. There’s so much to see and do!
Goofy’s Incredible Christmas! A sweet treat to end the magical days
In 2017, Disneyland Paris debuted a special night time Christmas stage/projection show in the Walt Disney Studios Park. I might have called Mickey’s Christmas Big Band the highlight of the season, but that is tied with this show. Goofy’s Incredible Christmas is a really fun show that warms up the cold night like nothing else.
Again, it’s just one of those things that has to be seen to be believed, there is that special Disney Christmas feeling once again.
There is nothing quite like a Disney Christmas
Disneyland Paris have Christmas nailed down. There is no other Disney resort who go as big as Paris for the Christmas season and they rule it. At each twist and turn of the resort there is something festive to enjoy, and this little preview only covers the big ticket items there is much more besides including a really fun Christmas market in Disney Village, a special version of “it’s a small world” to enjoy and much much more.
I’ve always said that there is no better time to visit Disneyland Paris, and I stick by this. You can also still get fantastic deals to visit on the official website, so if you’re tempted why not go and take a little look?
